World Cup Semifinal Germany Versus Spain Prediction

I have watched a ton of this World Cup.  A lot of that has to do with what I like most about the World Cup, the daily games.  I had a feeling the Netherlands would win yesterday but they were such a heavy favorite over Uruguay, especially with Saurez out, I did not think a prediction was worth the time.  Todays game of Germany versus Spain is the highlight thus far into the tournament and worthy of another poor prediction by me.

I should preface the following with this, I know little about soccer, I have learned some of what I know from this and the last two World Cups, but maybe more from the Fifa video games.

Germany and Spain

Spain was a favorite coming in but stumbled in its first match against Switzerland but was able to avoid panic and win the group.  Germany came out blazing in its first game only to struggle due to some very shady calls versus Serbia, while having boasted three games with four goals.  Both teams belong where they are as these two feel and look like two of the best four teams in the world.

If Germany gets a lead it is over.  From the little that I do know about soccer, Germany has the most deadly counter-attack in the World.  They are built to hold a lead, they are comfortable sitting back and striking at only the most opportune times.

If Spain gets a lead it will be very interesting.  Spain is very talented but not accustomed to this spotlight.  Along with Holland, Spain has never won a World Cup.  Will Spain be able to handle the pressure?

Germany looks bigger.  Much bigger.  While their entire teams looks on tv to be over 6 feet, Spain looks lucky to have anybody over 5’10”.  At the same time Germany does not look slow and plodding, in fact they have looked like one of the teams with the best overral team speed.

Spain looks prettier to most, quick passing, agile, and creative with the ball.  But Germany is bigger, looks just as fast and I would guess much stronger.  In a game that should be very competitive who is going to win the 50/50 headers?  The taller team.  I think Germany will wear Spain down and get a 2-0 win.

My Pick:  Germany
