The Milwaukee Bucks will start their summer league tonight, live on the NBA network at 7pm CST. Last year everybody had to scramble to find the game streamed online, not this year as the majority of the summer league games will be on live.
The schedule and roster are on nba.com.
What To Look For
The obvious answer is for our first round pick Larry Sanders to look great. Also for Darrington Hobson and Tiny Gallon to also look great but since none of our drafted rookies are true guards it could be tougher. Guards dominate formats like the summer league, AAU and any all star format. With little time to coach guys into specific offensive systems, sets and plays it will be all about the guards. That made it great for us last year as we had a chance to see a lot of Brandon Jennings, and a lot of the excitement surrounding Brandon Jennings started in the summer league.
My hope is Larry Sanders at least fits in, does not get pushed around, and has a nice block or two. If he scores great, what I really want to see is Sanders be able to clean up the glass on both sides of the floor and be a presence inside. Bucks need athleticism inside, we all know his offensive game needs work, I want to see that he at least has what we drafted him for.
I think Tiny Gallon could surprise. He is the type of post player built for summer league, big, can handle contact, and is offensive-minded. These guys do not get overly physical during the summer league games and physical, offensive-minded players can do well. Blake Griffen was doing really well last year, when he was on the floor. And Zac Randolph still has one of the best summer leagues ever, it still will get mentioned in comparison anytime someone gets off to a hot start during the brief summer league.
