A division cannot be won in the first month or two of the season but a team can start fast and build a lead that can help throughout the season. Carlos Boozer broke his hand and the report from ESPN states he will be out eight weeks.
Boozer was the prized off-season get for the Bulls. The player that was suppose to help ease the disappointment of losing out on any and all of the big three. If he is that important, he should be missed. Taj Gibson and Joakim Noah will fill in but neither player is at the level of Boozer.
How Much Can Bucks Benefit?
Boozer is listed as out 8 weeks. The injury is to his right hand so lets assume it will take 10 weeks before he is at full strength. That will mean he should be fully back in mid December. Friday December 10th the Bulls host the Lakers, Boozer should be back at full strength at that point. That would be 21 games, which is not an insignificant amount. The Bucks do not luck out and have a game or two with the Bulls during this time but the Bulls do have a lot of tough road games during this stretch to start the season including a 7-game western trip and two games at Boston.
This injury combined with the Bulls early schedule should give the Bucks an early edge in the division which may be needed since Vegas lists the Bucks over/under number at 41.5 while the Bulls are listed at 48.5.
