Offseason Comings and Goings

  • John Hammond made the smart move of exercising Carlos Delfino’s option yesterday.  Regardless of his long-term future with the team, Delfino will be a relative bargain next year with a $3.5 million salary.
  • Bucks assistant coach Kelvin Sampson may be on his way out of Milwaukee.  The Houston Chronicle reports that Sampson met with Rockets GM Daryl Morey to discuss Houston’s head coach vacancy.   If Sampson doesn’t beat out the long list of candidates for that job, another position has opened up:  Golden State dismissed head coach Keith Smart today.
  • John Hammond left open the possibility of Michael Redd returning to the team during his end-of-season press conference.  (Choose the Pascheketball video, 6:21 mark.)
  • In that same press conference (5:10 mark), when discussing Larry Sanders and the positives in his skill set, Hammond discussed the overall athleticism (or lack thereof) of the Bucks.  This quote tells me that Hammond “gets it” as a GM.  Just reading it gets me excited about the upcoming lottery/draft/season.  (Work with me and pretend there won’t be a lockout.)

We need to become a little more athletic.  The NBA game is played with speed, it’s played with quickness, and it’s played above the rim.  And that’s one thing that probably is another factor for us — we’re probably playing below the rim a little bit too much.
