According to Paul Imig of Fox Sports Wisconsin, Milwaukee Bucks Assistant General Manager Jeff Weltman said
“We tell (agents), ‘If your kid doesn’t come in to visit, we can’t pick him,'” Weltman said. “‘So just know, I know you think he’s going to be gone before us, but if he does that to us, he’s going to get past us.'”
when speaking about Jimmer Fredette’s decision not to workout in Milwaukee. If we hold Weltman to his word, then expect the Bucks to draft one of the following players with the tenth pick in the draft:
- Marshon Brooks
- Chris Singleton
- Alec Burks
- Marcus Morris
- Markieff Morris
- Tristan Thompson
- Klay Thompson
- Jordan Hamilton
These players are the likely first-round selections who made a trip to Wisconsin for a workout. Jimmer Fredette, Kemba Walker, and more recently, Kawhi Leonard all declined the chance to audition for Milwaukee.
Of course, Hammond and Weltman could look overseas for their pick — the Bucks’ decision makers took a week-long trip to Europe for player evaluation in the middle of this past month’s scouting. If so, expect them to choose from a group that includes Jonas Valanciunas, Bismack Biyombo, Jan Vesely, or Donatas Motiejuna. While some of those players should go before the tenth pick, expect a couple to slide and still be on the board when the Bucks pick.
I’m feeling particularly wussy. Instead of narrowing down my guess (and ‘guess’ is most definitely the right word) to just one player, I’m covering my arse and going with three. But I’ll be brave and rank them! So here they are, in order from most to least likely:
- Alec Burks: In a league of closers (Pierce, Kobe, D-Wade, Dirk), Milwaukee takes a stab at finding theirs.
- Bismack Biyombo: Skiles gets his way and the Bucks add another stopper.
- Klay Thompson: Size and long-range shooting in one package.
