Brandon Jennings led a second-half comeback, but his missed jumper on the final play left the Drew League All-Stars just short as they lost to the Goodman League, 135-134. The final possession of the “Capital Punishment” exhibition consisted of Jennings dribbling at the top of the key. After Jennings’ misfire, teammate James Harden squeezed off one last shot at the buzzer, but it was blocked by Kevin Durant. Jennings scored 34 points for the game and Harden got 29. Local hero Durant led all scorers with 44.
At halftime, the Goodman led 76-65, but Jennings sliced his way to the rim repeatedly against the exhibition-level defense as the Drew League eventually worked their way back into game –tying it at 133-133 on a Harden three-pointer. Harden later made 1-of-2 free throws and Durant 2-of-2 to account for the final margin.
The exhibition was played in DC in a 1,500-seat gym on the campus of Trinity College. A planning error left hundreds of fans with tickets stranded outside after the building reached capacity.
