Monta Trade Sparks Cold Shoulder from Golden State Owner’s Fiancee

Not everyone in the Golden State organization is happy with the Monta Ellis-Andrew Bogut swap.

Sure, owner Joe Lacob approved the deal after consulting with Golden State’s GM Larry Riley, assistant GM Bob Myers, director of basketball operations Kirk Lacob (Joe’s son), and, perhaps most importantly, senior consultant Jerry West.  And yes, all those parties unanimously agreed that the deal was a good move.

But in Joe Lacob’s world, there’s someone who probably outranks them:  his fiancee, Nicole Curran.  Here is what Scott Ostler of the San Francisco Chronicle wrote about the situation:

“My fiancee is mad at me,” co-owner Lacob said, hanging out in the hallway off the court before Wednesday night’s game. “She hasn’t talked to me in two days.”

Is he kidding?

“There she is,” Lacob said. “Ask her.”

His fiancee brushed past without answering. She looked unhappy.

If Monta plays well enough to inspire half as much loyalty among the wives of Bucks’ upper management, then he will have done his job.

Speaking of good PR, Ellis took out an advertisement in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel thanking the fans of the Bucks for their hospitality upon his arrival.  It looks like Monta is already making strides to ingratiate himself in his new hometown.
