Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: The Milwaukee Bucks have a new/old home. While they will still be playing in the same arena, that venue is now called the BMO Harris Bradley Pavilion.
The renaming deal was approved by the son and daughter of Jane Bradley Pettit. In a press release, her children said,
The name change also represents a shift in position for Lynde Bradley Uihlein and David V. Uihlein Jr., the daughter and son of the late philanthropist Jane Bradley Pettit. It was Jane Bradley Pettit’s $93 million donation that led to the construction of the Bradley Center in memory of her father, Harry Lynde Bradley. Four years ago, the family said selling the naming rights would degrade their mother’s gift.
In a press release on the stadium’s web site, the children stated their support for the new title.
We are grateful for the community’s support in working to ensure the continued viability of the Bradley Center. And, we support solutions that preserve the integrity of our family’s gift to build the Bradley Center as well as ensure the success of the Bucks as Milwaukee’s NBA franchise.
While specific financial terms of the renaming deal were not released, the total sponsorship pledges from corporate sponsors will total $18 million over the next six years.
Wait a second. There’s going to be a Bradley Center/BMO Harris Bradley Center in six years?
Kansas City Star: Bob Boozer, the sixth man on the Bucks’ 1971 championship team, passed away at the age of 75. He averaged 5.5 points per game off the bench in the four-game sweep of the Bullets. In addition to winning a title with the Bucks, Boozer was a two-time All-American at Kansas State, a 1960 gold medalist in Rome, and a longtime charitable presence in his home city of Omaha.
Brew Hoop: The guys at Brew Hoop pick an MVP for the 2011-12 Bucks by a tight 3-2 margin.
Y! Sports: Jon Brockman takes to the court dressed like Barney the Dinosaur. Or a kid in diapers who watches Barney the Dinosaur. Holy huskies, Batman.
This pic mostly just makes me glad that the Bucks colors no longer include purple.
