Big Guards Star in Bucks' 3rd Pre-Draft Workout

The Bucks’ third pre-draft workout will be held Saturday at the Cousins Center. Last night Gery Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times reported that the Bucks have an interest in “big guards”. Well, that’s exactly what the Bucks will be looking for today in this workout. Let’s look at the participants.

Will Barton
Position: Shooting Guard/Small Forward
College: Memphis
Height: 6’6″
Weight: 170 pounds
Wingspan: 6’9.75″
Vertical Jump: 34 in.
2011-12 Stats: 18.o ppg, 2.9 apg 8.o rpg, 1.4 spg
Projected Draft Position: Late first/early second round
Analysis: Will Barton is an explosive guard who did it all for Memphis in college. He was their go-to scorer, rebounder and playmaker. He’s an athletic freak who has great feel on his very consistent outside jumper. One downside to Barton is his decision making. He’ll often find himself flying out of control of drives and throwing the ball away. He is only 21 years old, so he has a lot of time to develop his game. After interviewing with the Bucks at the NBA combine, he said “They told me they could use a big guard like me”. If Barton slides to pick #42 it’ll be a no-brainer for the Bucks. He has a lot of potential.

Ramone Moore
Position: Shooting Guard/Small Forward
College: Temple
Height: 6’4″
Weight: 188 pounds
Wingspan: 6’9″
2011-12 Stats: 17.3 ppg, 3.4 apg 4.3 rpg, 1.1 spg
Projected Draft Position: Late second round/undrafted
Analysis: Moore is a guy who we didn’t hear a lot from in his four-year college career. Playing at Temple in the Atlantic 10, he wasn’t frequently in the headlines. Despite that, there’s no doubt this kid can play. Moore is another playmaker with a deadly outside jumper. He has a knack for getting in the paint and finding teammates for easy buckets. Like Barton, his decision making needs work — Moore averaged 2.8 turnovers a game in College. But he is a veteran who will have a good shot of making a team if he’s drafted.

Evan Fournier
Position: Shooting Guard/Small Forward
From: France
Height: 6’7″
Weight: 204 pounds
Standing Reach: 8′ 6.5″
Vertical Jump: 31.5 in.
2011-12 Stats: 14.o ppg, 2.2 apg 3.2 rpg, 1.5 spg
Projected Draft Position: Early second round
Analysis: Fournier is textbook crafty guard who has a great outside shot. His specialty is off the pick-and-roll, where he often uses the “pick and pop” but also can find himself a way to the rim. In an unusual draft where there aren’t many European players, Fournier is the top ranked Euro for this class. Many people compare this guy to a Manu Ginobili, a big Euro guard with a good shot and great instincts on the drive. If his falls to pick #42, it’s likely the Bucks could take the chance on him.

Notes: Also in camp today is 6’5″ shooting guard Larry Anderson from Long Beach State, likely just for another body. His name is rare to find on most expert’s mock drafts.

Potential lottery picks Jeremy Lamb and Dion Waiters along with Terrence Ross were all scheduled to workout today. Lamb got injured at Toronto on Thursday, Waiters received a lottery promise from and unknown team (likely Phoenix), and Ross cancelled for an unknown reason. Lamb and Ross and likely to workout with the Bucks sometime next week.
