Jeff Weltman up for Clippers’ GM

According to Broderick Turner of the LA Times, Bucks assistant General Manager Jeff Weltman is one of the names on the Clippers’ GM wish list. Clippers’ President Andy Roeser has Weltman on the Clippers “radar” for the job.

Weltman has some history with the Clippers, as his first job in the NBA was being a video coordinator for the team in 1988. From 1994-2001 he was the Director of Player Personnel for the Clips.

In 2002 he became the assistant general manager with the Denver Nuggets, where he stayed for five seasons. In the 2008 season he worked alongside John Hammond in Detroit. After just one year with the Pistons, Weltman joined the Bucks as the assistant GM along with Hammond as prior to the 09-10 season.

The “Lob City” GM position is a coveted one is currently up for grabs. The last few years the Clippers have become a very compelling product in the NBA with the addition of superstar Chris Paul alongside former #1 pick Blake Griffin. It’s unlikely Weltman will be picked for the position, because of the number of highly touted candidates interested in the job.

Until Weltman gets on a final list of canidates, I wouldn’t start sweating too much.
