Larry Sanders Misses Top-5 in Defensive Player of Year Vote

There have been rumors for a few days that Marc Gasol would win the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year Award, so finding out during today’s announcement that Sanders wasn’t the winner provided little surprise.

However, what may be more surprising is that Larry Sanders didn’t even make the top-5.

Marc Gasol of the Grizzlies was indeed with winner, followed by LeBron James, Serge Ibaka, Joakim Noah, and Tony Allen. Noble choices all, with the exception of Ibaka, who blocks shots and contributes little else. Tim Duncan finished sixth.

Sanders finished seventh with four first-place votes and 90 overall points.  He led the voting in both second-place votes (18) and third-place votes (16).
