Weltman Among Candidates for Suns GM, According to Report

Bucks’ assistant general manager Jeff Weltman is among the candidates under consideration for the Phoenix Suns’ vacant general manager position, according to a tweet by Paul Coro of The Arizona Republic.

In a press conference today, Suns president Lon Babby said that ”it doesn’t necessarily have to be someone… who’s had general manager experience. Obviously that would be a plus, but I don’t think it’s necessary.”  The vacancy was created when the Suns parted ways with previous general manager Lance Blanks after three underwhelming seasons.

Weltman was reportedly a candidate for a similar position with the Los Angeles Clippers last summer. He joined the Bucks before the 2009-10 season after working with general manager John Hammond in Detroit.  Prior to that, Weltman had been an assistant GM in Denver for five seasons.
