Bucks’ assistant general manager Jeff Weltman is among the candidates under consideration for the Phoenix Suns’ vacant general manager position, according to a tweet by Paul Coro of The Arizona Republic.

In a press conference today, Suns president Lon Babby said that “it doesn’t necessarily have to be someone… who’s had general manager experience. Obviously that would be a plus, but I don’t think it’s necessary.” The vacancy was created when the Suns parted ways with previous general manager Lance Blanks after three underwhelming seasons.
Weltman was reportedly a candidate for a similar position with the Los Angeles Clippers last summer. He joined the Bucks before the 2009-10 season after working with general manager John Hammond in Detroit. Prior to that, Weltman had been an assistant GM in Denver for five seasons.
