Ersan Ilyasova shoots over Boston’s Brandon Bass during a game on Nov. 1
Injured Bucks Ersan Ilyasova and Caron Butler returned to practice Monday and both could play in Wednesday’s game against the Trail Blazers.
Ilyasova, who is nursing an ankle injury that dates back to the preseason opener, has not played since Nov. 2 against Toronto. Butler left Wednesday’s game against Orlando with a sprained shoulder and sat out both losses to Indiana and Oklahoma City over the weekend. He practiced in full Monday with a protective sleeve on his right shoulder, per Gery Woelfel of the Racine Jounral Times.
While Ilyasova and Butler are on the mend, Gary Neal (foot) sat out practice and Brandon Knight (hamstring) was a limited participant. It’s unknown whether either will play Wednesday, but Neal appears to be the more likely of the two to take the court. He played 19 minutes in Saturday’s loss after sitting against Orlando, and it’s possible the team held him out of practice for precautionary reasons.
Meanwhile, Knight missed the past three games and has played a total of just 41 minutes this season. It appeared he may have come back a bit prematurely after suffering a hamstring strain on opening night and returning 10 days later – he played in two games (Dallas and Miami) before returning to the injury list – and the training staff will likely be more cautious this time around. They can afford to do so with Luke Ridnour now back in the fold. The veteran made his Milwaukee re-debut Friday against Indiana, scoring four points in 21 minutes. He played 20 minutes Saturday against Oklahoma City in relief of Nate Wolters and should see his minutes increase as he works back into game shape after missing seven games with a back injury.
No new developments on the Larry Sanders front, and all indications are that he remains on track to return in about six weeks after undergoing successful thumb surgery last week. Sanders has been the rightful target of some criticism this season, but the big man – well-dressed as always (big fan of the shoes) was seen at the BMOHBC on Saturday signing autographs prior to the game.
