Andrew Wiggins joins Jabari Parker and Joel Embiid in sitting out this week’s NBA Predraft Combine in Chicago.
Earlier in the day, news surfaced that both Jabari Parker and Joel Embiid would not be attending the NBA Predraft Combine in Chicago this week.
Now, it looks like Embiid’s former teammate at Kansas, Andrew Wiggins, will follow suit.
A month-and-a-half away from the June 26 draft, Wiggins, Embiid and Parker all project as top-five picks. With Embiid and Parker already opting out, it makes sense that Wiggins would do the same. None of the three prospects could do much in a combine setting to increase their stock, particularly Parker and Embiid. While he enjoyed an All-American freshman season at Duke, Parker isn’t likely to wow scouts with his athleticism (though he is a very good athlete). And Embiid continues to deal with questions surrounding his season-ending back surgery to repair a stress fracture. All three prospects will instead meet with individual teams once the draft order is set on May 20.
The NBA Predraft Combine runs from May 14-18 at Attack Athletics in downtown Chicago.
