In the first event of NBA All-Star Weekend, the East Celebrities dominated the West by a score of 88-59, behind nine points from Marc Lasry.

Despite a great effort by the 2016 MVP Win Butler (22 points, 11 rebounds), it was his teammate Brandon Armstrong (16 points, 15 rebounds) who took home the MVP award in what was a great performance as the Celebrity All-Star Game officially opened NBA All-Star Weekend 2017.

Armstrong, famous for his NBA impressions, flashed the all-around basketball talent that led him to spending some time in the NBA D-League earlier in his life. But after all, the Celebrity Game is all about having fun, so he was able to break out his most famous impression, that of James Harden, much to the dismay of his head coach.

Nonetheless, the game got out of hand quickly as the East took command and never looked back. The game was a fun affair even if the score was extremely lopsided, but that is really the whole point of this game. In fact, after an air-balled three, both teams broke out the #MannequinChallenge.

But as Bucks’ fans, the true focus was on the real star player of the East Team, Marc Lasry, who dominated the floor on both ends. After warming up in a shirt with “Moroccan Freak” written on it, Lasry went for a career night. Thanks to playing to his strengths on the offensive end, he put up nine points and snagged a couple of very significant rebounds in the winning effort.

Lasry showed his finesse with an outstanding and-one late in the game, and even gave a little shout for the foul call, a la Greg Monroe. In attendance for the game was, naturally, Giannis Antetokounmpo, who had some words to say about the performance from his co-owner. See here:

According to the Greek Freak, there is a bet between the two on who scores the most points this weekend. Lasry had nine points on Friday night, but will Giannis be able to top that in the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday night? He will be a starter in that game and probably look to show off his high-flying skills, but with the passing he can put on display, he might end up with double-digit assists before passing his owner’s mark of nine points.

In addition to the play of the co-owner, one of the stars of the night was Jarrius Robertson. Robertson, a kid from the host city of New Orleans, suffers from a rare liver disease, and he stepped on to the court for the West Celebrities and did this:

The MVP might have gone to Brandon Armstrong, but this was truly the Play of the Game. Sadly, however, Marc Lasry was not able to come home with the game’s MVP award, leaving Jordan Treske to be reluctantly hopeful for next year in his time running the Behind the Buck Pass twitter page on Saturday night.

The event once again epitomized the fun of All-Star Weekend and hopefully got everybody in the mood for some exciting basketball action the two days that follow.
