According to a report from Sean Deveney of the Sporting News, the Milwaukee Bucks are among the teams interested in Sacramento Kings point guard Darren Collison.

With rumors having swirled around the long-running Milwaukee Bucks’ interest in Ricky Rubio in recent days, it seemed clear that the franchise were still considering their options at the point guard position. Now, it seems the Bucks have found another target who they like the look of.

According to a report from Sean Deveney of the Sporting News, the Bucks are among a number of teams showing interest in Sacramento Kings point guard Darren Collison.

Deveney described Collison’s current situation as follows:

More from Bucks Rumors

"“His contract, paying him $5.3 million this year, expires in the summer and despite an off-court guilty to plea to a domestic violence charge this summer, he has done well when on the court this year. He has averaged 17.3 points on 50.9 percent shooting from the field in his last 13 games, and potential playoff teams in need of point guard depth (Atlanta, Charlotte, Milwaukee) have had some interest in Collison.”"

With Collison set to hit free agency in the summer, the post-Boogie Cousins Kings have been looking to offload the point guard for a longer-term asset in their apparent never-ending rebuild.

According to NBA.com’s David Aldridge, the price the Kings have set on Collison is a steep one, as they’re holding out for a first round pick.

Collison, who’s having an excellent season, seems like a logical option for a playoff team in need of an extra scoring punch from the bench, or added point guard depth, but at that price he represents a hefty risk for any team not guaranteed to make the playoffs.

While the Bucks would certainly be all the better for fortifying their thin point guard rotation with the addition of Collison, at present they find themselves sitting outside of the playoffs with a record of 25-30.

Without Jabari Parker for the rest of the season, and considering the problems the Bucks have faced on the court since the start of 2017, it’s fair to say that the post-season currently remains more of a hope than an expectation for Milwaukee.

Averaging 13.7 points, 4.2 assists, 2.1 rebounds and 1.1 steals, while shooting 48.1 percent from the field and 41.1 percent from three-point range, there’s no doubt that Collison could give the Bucks an extra push if he can continue his high caliber play this season, but the reality is that still may not be enough.

With another year in the lottery perhaps on the horizon, the Bucks aren’t wrong to be on the lookout for a veteran point guard, but need to ensure not to add someone at the cost of an asset they’d wish they still had three months down the line.

UPDATE: Charles Gardner of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the Bucks haven’t yet had any discussions with the Kings on Collison
