John Henson had a rollercoaster year that included battling for the starting spot, countless DNPs and injury problems. How does it grade overall, though?

Considering the stable contributions the Milwaukee Bucks received from Thon Maker and Greg Monroe late in the year, it’d be easy to forget the difficulties they had early in the year at that position.

Of course, Miles Plumlee starting the season at the five off the back of a strong close to the previous season and a subsequent extension is a standout memory, but John Henson’s larger role when the team pivoted away from Plumlee is probably a little less memorable.

Henson started the year playing less than 20 minutes per game, coming off the bench for the first eight games of the year and even picking up a DNP along the way. The unpredictable ride continued for Henson when he gained the starting role over Plumlee, yet he could never really make the most of it either.

While Henson held the starting role for close to half the season, the minutes played were kept at a minimum, and the sight of a DNP beside his name in the box score became more frequent as the year went on.

Following that up with an eventual thumb injury late in the year really brings into question the role Henson will play on this Milwaukee Bucks team moving forward. Considering he’s the team’s longest-serving player, that says a lot about his inconsistencies.

Let’s take a closer look at what exactly we were able to see from Henson in the 2016-2017 season.
