Heading into the Milwaukee Bucks’ 50th anniversary season, the team has unveiled a commemorative logo.

Founded on January 22, 1968, the Milwaukee Bucks will celebrate their 50th anniversary during the upcoming NBA season.

At a time of great change for the franchise — with the arrival of the Wisconsin Herd G-League franchise, and the move to a new arena on the horizon — it’s important for the Bucks to take a moment to honor their past.

Unsurprisingly, it looks like the team have a number of plans in place to commemorate this major milestone in the team’s history.

The first glimpse of any kind of recognition of the 50-year mark arrived on Friday morning, as the Bucks revealed a special commemorative logo on Twitter.

Noted in the tweet that it will be used for anniversary-related events, merchandise and promotions for the course of the season, the specifics of the logo’s use remains uncertain.

In recent years it has become common for teams to wear a commemorative patch on their jerseys to mark major anniversaries, and as such, that would seem like one possible use of the new logo.

Extending beyond the initial logo unveiling, the organization also seems set to roll out further news surrounding the team’s 50th anniversary season in the coming days.

The Bucks’ third annual Summer Block Party takes place in the city’s Schlitz Park on Saturday, and according to a release sent out on the team’s website on Friday, it will play host to “the first major announcement” regarding the anniversary celebrations:

"“The highlight of this year’s Summer Block Party will be a special announcement at 2 p.m. that will be the first major announcement of the Bucks’ 50th Anniversary celebration – a season-long celebration of the Bucks’ 50th season calling Milwaukee home that will take place throughout the 2017-18 season.”"

Accompanying that news on the website, the Bucks also tweeted out a video that gives a glimpse of some of the Bucks’ teams, players and coaches throughout the 50 years.

Vin Baker, Marques Johnson, Bob Dandridge and Desmond Mason are among the franchise legends who will be in attendance at the Block Party, joining current players Malcolm Brogdon, Rashad Vaughn and Gary Payton II.
