Wisconsin Herd’s comeback falls short versus Westchester Knicks
Despite their late comeback charge and guard Xavier Munford‘s career night, the Wisconsin Herd fell short versus the Westchester Knicks on Wednesday night in Menominee Nation Arena.
The Wisconsin Herd couldn’t play spoiler to the Westchester Knicks’ pursuit of the one-seed in the Eastern Conference as the Herd fell to the Knicks 119-112 in front of a packed house in Menominee Nation Arena.
The Knicks got off to a fast start on the offensive end while the Herd struggled out of the gate as they were stuck on seven points after going scoreless from the 6:54 mark of the first to the 3:10 mark. The scoring disparity only grew from there with the Knicks holding a 33-18 lead after one.

After their deficit grew to 20 at the beginning of the second, the Herd started to show some signs of life after rattling off a mini run to close the gap down to 12 at the 8:07 mark of the quarter.
Despite the Knicks answering back with a run of their own over the next few minutes, the Herd whittled the gap over the period’s final couple of minutes to trail 58-47 heading into halftime.
While very little changed for most of the third quarter, the Herd battled back to make it a whole new ballgame at the end of three as they trailed 85-81.
As much as the scales had tipped their way with 12 minutes to go, the Knicks stemmed the tide to start the fourth by going on a 16-4 run until the 7:17 mark of the frame. The Herd finally crafted a response from that point on in the period, eventually finding a way to trail by just single digits within the night’s final couple of minutes.
After triples from both Ricky Ledo and Kyle Casey, the Herd had closed the gap down to 4, which stood until the Knicks got key free throws, three to be exact, from Billy Garrett to make it a seven-point game with 29.2 seconds to go.
From there, Xavier Munford put on his cape after not hitting one, but two treys in succession to make it a single possession game before the Herd had to send the Knicks to the free throw line to give them enough time to keep turning up the heat. But that was as far as the Herd’s comeback attempt went as the Knicks put on the finishing touches in the final few ticks that remained.
With the loss to the Knicks on Wednesday night, the Herd’s record is 21-28 with one game left to go in their first-ever season.
