Isaiah Canaan signed a 10-day contract and made an impressive debut with the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday, but what do you need to know about the veteran point guard?
It’s possible that many Milwaukee Bucks may not have known who Isaiah Canaan was prior to 6 p.m. CT on Monday evening, when his signing was officially announced on the team’s website.
Three-and-a-half hours later, Canaan was celebrating a win against the Bulls with his new teammates, and an impressive debut of his own in the process.
In spite of having no chance to practice, and minimal time to even touch base with coaches and teammates on how the team plays, Canaan logged 12 minutes off the bench and chipped in with six points (on a perfect 2-of-2 shooting from the field and three-point range), two assists and a rebound.
Speaking to Matt Velazquez of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel after the game, Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer explained how those events unfolded:
“My part is the throw you out there and see how it goes. We did that,” Budenholzer said. “It was good to sit down and just tell him, ‘Be aggressive.’ I think that message comes from me. The assistants sit down and go over a little bit of offense, a little bit of defense, just do the best they can. You don’t want to overload somebody, either. It’s better for them just to play.”
So, what do you need to know about the newest member of the Bucks? Let’s take a look through his journey to this point in order to get to know him a little better.
