Ranking the Milwaukee Bucks’ top 5 trade chips this offseason – George Hill

It’d be hard to envision the Bucks parting ways with their proverbial security blanket in George Hill for a variety of reasons.

Not only has Hill been essential for the Bucks to have multiple playmakers and ball-handlers on the floor during critical moments, but finishing this season as the league-leading 3-point shooter (46 percent) gave the Bucks quite the lift offensively. Even at 34 years old, Hill’s length, versatility and veteran experience makes him a solid defensive presence, especially within the fabric of the Bucks’ elite defensive foundation.

However, all of the reasons why the Bucks would be reluctant to part with Hill makes him a nice supporting trade piece from the perspective of opposing teams around the league.

The fact that Hill’s contract structure is an asset makes offering him up in a deal that much more palatable on the other side of the table. After all, Hill is under contract for the next two seasons, but the $10 million he’s owed for the 2021-22 season is only guaranteed at $1.2 million before its guarantee date that will surely be pushed back because of the reworked league calendar.

Parting ways with what few stable ball-handlers the Bucks have under contract isn’t exactly a promising scenario for what is the Bucks’ biggest need to address this offseason. But having backed themselves into such a corner, especially after flaming out spectacularly in the playoffs, may leave the Bucks with no choice but to include their dependable sixth man in trade discussions.
