Milwaukee Bucks: 3 things to watch for in season opener against Boston Celtics
The start of the Milwaukee Bucks’ run to a potential NBA title
Tonight marks the start of what will hopefully be a long journey for the Bucks this 2020-21 season.
The Bucks’ playoff flameout last season had informed their desire to upgrade their core and go all-in for Holiday while desperately waiting on Antetokounmpo to put pen to paper. As such, there will be a great adjustment period for all of the Bucks’ many pieces to gel and take on the challenges that exist going into this unique season.
But that doesn’t mean the Bucks will completely reinvent the wheel along the way, even for as much as their playoff struggles have steadily stood out as a black mark on their overall success these last two years. Antetokounmpo addressed this very topic to reporters earlier in the week as ESPN’s Eric Woodyard transcribed:
"“I don’t think we change the way we approach it because it’s been working the last two years. We’ve won a lot of games and we’ve created winning habits,” Antetokounmpo said Monday. “Obviously, I think we’ve got to get better. We throw a first punch. We’ve got to throw a second punch and the second punch is gotta be better in the playoffs so you’ve got to basically do what you do in the regular season, you’ve got to carry over in the playoffs then you’ve got to do it even better.”"
Of course, much of the discussion about the Bucks’ adaptability under Budenholzer, or lack thereof, are questions and concerns that won’t be answered until May, June and July.
For now, the Bucks have to integrate their new additions to the system that has helped catapult them to the top of the league in each of the last two seasons. That, in itself, will be a struggle for the Bucks as they sort out their rotation and see who rises to the top of their overhauled bench unit.
There’s clearly no shortage of burning questions that the Bucks need to answer over the course of the season and we’ll have finally have our first glimpse at this Bucks team Wednesday night. You can catch the action when the Bucks’ matchup against the Celtics tips off at 6:30 p.m. central time where it will be broadcast on TNT.
