Adam: When Mikhail Prokhorov bought the Nets and showed such a willingness to spend in chasing his championship dream, could you have envisioned that window for success as being just as small as it now seems to be?

Reed: Oh god no. It’s going to sound crazy, but the Nets have been subject to incredibly bad luck. No one could have seen Deron Williams’ production dropping like this, the trade with the Celtics going awry and their franchise head coach bolting after a season that saw progress, to name a few.

The Nets did what few teams fear to do: go for it all. Prokhorov wanted a championship team and he opened his checkbook to Billy King and essentially gave him a blank check. The moves didn’t pan out like many expected them to, but in the moment, it seemed like brilliant decisions.

Hindsight is 20/20, you know.
