It’s been less than twelve months since Taj Gibson narrowly missed out on the Sixth Man of the Year award, yet all of a sudden he feels a lot less important to what the Bulls are doing in Chicago.

The arrival of Pau Gasol has seen a significant improvement in the quality of the Bulls’ front court. At this advanced point in their respective careers Gasol has proven himself to be a lot more valuable than Carlos Boozer was.

On top of that, the readiness of Chicago’s rookie Nikola Mirotic to contribute immediately in the NBA means Gibson is likely to become more of a luxury than a necessity.

It hasn’t impacted Gibson’s role within the Bulls rotation just yet, but with close to $17.5 million still owed to him over the next two seasons, Chicago’s front office would be wise to consider whether that’s money that could be better utilized in bolstering another part of their roster.

According to Sean Deveney of Sporting News, Gibson is very much up for grabs too. Should Milwaukee consider adding him? His rebounding would definitely help.
