  • Adam: One of the more puzzling moves Hinkie has made is his decision to keep JaVale McGee (for the moment, at least). Aside from its obvious entertainment value, does the prospect of JaVale acting as a mentor for Philadelphia’s talented young big men not terrify you?

Drew: Honestly, it’s about giving someone who has had a rough go of it the past few years, but has shined in previous situations, a chance to prove that he’s still worth something.

Not to mention, JaVale McGee is just fun as hell to watch. Although it’s sad, because when watching him, he has so many physical tools, but his coaching has failed him to this point. It’ll be interesting to see if Brett Brown can motivate him.

Besides his antics, I don’t have a problem with JaVale as a mentor. With context of the article that brought that up, JaVale mentioned being on a 19-win team his first year in the NBA. He understands what it’s like and can probably help these guys through some rough times.

I know it seems hilarious, but I’m positive that JaVale McGee is a very genuine human being despite the antics. Keep in mind that we have no idea what he’s really like on the inside.
