Milwaukee Bucks Grades: Starters

Michael Carter-Williams, C+

16 Points | 5-14 FG | 6-6 FT | 4 REB | 7 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK |

Not really a hallmark performance from Carter-Williams. The points and assists totals look nice, sure–but when you add in the five turnovers that he committed it’s hard to really get excited about Carter-William’s performance. He shot just 3-10 outside the paint. Though his jumper isn’t as awful as advertised, his decision making is. He’ll improve under the tutelage of Jason Kidd, but he’s not there yet.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, B+

16 Points| 6-13 FG | 4-4 FT | 8 REB | 1 AST | 2 STL | 1 BLK |

He’s attacking with confidence but still finds himself stuck in nasty situations under the rim. He tends to lose his dribble and his feet when attacking the rim without any clear plan with the ball. That’s an improvement over dribbling pointlessly on the perimeter–the next step is learning how to finish at the rim by expanding his move-set.

Khris Middleton, B

14 Points | 5-9 FG | 4-5 FT | 4 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK |

He shot it efficiently, scored in double digits, and made momentum halting shots when the Bucks really needed them. His at-the-rim game makes me nervous, especially on the fast break, but he showed flashes of being a solid isolation player despite the close-range misses. He didn’t make a three-pointer (0-2) after dropping in three against the Nuggets. He’s good–but he’s not ready to be the go-to player that Buck’s fans envisioned him as becoming after the Brandon Knight trade.

Jared Dudley, C-

2 Points | 1-5 FG | 0-0 FT | 4 REB | 2 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK |

Where on earth has his shooting touch gone? Once relied upon to make one or two important three pointers, Dudley hasn’t made multiple three pointers since February 9th against the Brooklyn Nets. It’s hard to support his presence in the starting lineup (given his .280 shooting in the last five games). He continued this poor streak against the Warriors–the only shot he made was a wide-open baseline jumper that, admittedly, swished.

Zaza Pachulia, A-

13 Points | 5-9 FG | 3-4 FT | 11 REB | 4 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK |

On principle alone I almost balked at giving Pachulia a top-level grade. But he earned his grade against the Warriors tonight. His six points and six rebounds in six minutes kept the Bucks afloat while the Warriors sniped with impunity from outside. Pachulia had a double-double before halftime. Think about that. This was Pachulia’s first double-double since January 22nd against the Utah Jazz.
