Miami Heat: 2008-09

When you stop to think of Miami Heat teams of the 21st century, it’s easy to look at it as one big dynasty starting with Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O’Neal and ending with LeBron James and Chris Bosh.

The reality is there was a four-year spell in between those two that was far from those dizzying heights though.

In 2007-08, Miami won only 15 games (sounds familiar) and finished rock bottom in the NBA. This led to a coaching change ahead of the next season where the addition of Eric Spoelstra with his fresh ideas and young blood would lead to a massive jump in the team’s win total, and a speedy return to relevance (I know, this is a little eerie).

In that 2008-09 season Miami won 43 games, finishing fifth in the East and only exiting the First Round after a seven game series with the Atlanta Hawks.

The year after that it became 47 wins, although it ultimately resulted in another First Round exit.

From there, Miami got together with LeBron James and four straight trips to the Finals ensued. You heard it here first, Bucks fans, LeBron will come to Milwaukee by 2016-17!
