Cincinnati Royals: 1957-58

Don’t worry, Kings fans, we’re not talking about relocation, but long before the team found its way to Sacramento, they were the Rochester Royals, and then the Cincinnati Royals.

It was at that transition from Rochester to Cincinnati that the team went through one of their more drastic shifts in fortune though.

After a successful first few years in existence, including the franchise’s only title, during their time in Rochester, the end of the team’s residence in the state of New York saw them go off the boil a little and miss the Playoffs for two straight years.

When the team moved to Cincinnati, it coincided with the arrival of Clyde Lovellette from the Lakers, a player who had been an All-Star in his two previous campaigns.

Lovellette helped propel the Royals to the 2nd best record in the West during his only season with the team, but it proved to be a rare exception, as they would miss the post-season in the following three seasons.
