Matt Carlino

Speaking of local connections, former Marquette Golden Eagles point guard Matt Carlino was another who took to the Bucks’ practice floor yesterday.

Carlino was “known for his spectacular, yet inconsistent play” throughout an eventful college career that saw him take in stops at Indiana, UCLA and BYU.

The 23-year-old measures in at 6’2″ high, meaning that any hopes he has as a professional will likely come with him as a point guard. Unfortunately he’s not necessarily the type of distributor that has become more and more popular in the NBA.

Carlino is a scoring guard who averaged 15 points on almost 41 percent shooting, and a 42 percent success rate from deep with Marquette last season. More of a problem is the fact that he only averaged 3.1 assists a night.

McKinney indicated that Carlino did do enough to catch the eye though and it may not be the end for him and the Bucks:

"He’s a player we’ll keep in mind as we continue to form our summer league roster. He didn’t shoot the ball as well as he’d like today, but he did some other things that were impressive. He made plays for other people."
