What The Experts Say:

"Hunter has great upside. He’s a terrific shooter, has a high basketball IQ and can be a playmaker as well as a shooter. – Chad Ford, ESPN"

What The Player Says:

"I’ve got great feel for the game and I think that’s why I’m at this level right now, and that’s what will take me forward moving on. – R.J. Hunter"

What BTBP Says:

There’s a couple of things you can expect from a Houston Rockets’ draft pick. First and foremost, you’ll be able to easily identify how the player should be able to help the team, and the reason for that is generally that there’ll be a tangible analytics thinking behind it.

Tangible and analytics don’t generally go together, but with Houston you can generally guarantee that any guy they take on will be either highly proficient from deep, or in the paint.

R.J. Hunter falls under that category as a three-point shooter, and could give the Rockets depth in an area where they have often struggled behind James Harden in recent seasons.

The Rockets have gotten away with plugging small forwards in at the two, but Hunter’s shooting would allow them to give him some run when Harden sits, and potentially even beside him in spacing-centric lineups.

SB Nation’s Houston Rockets site The Dream Shake have described Hunter as someone with “irrational confidence and unlimited range”, and that sounds like something that would work well in Houston’s arsenal.
