BTBP Mock NBA Draft: Editor’s Edition
By Adam McGee
What The Experts Say:
"Mudiay is your modern day athletic, scoring point guard. He runs the pick and roll well, and can get to the rim and finish well. He passes well out of the screen and roll and shows good court vision. He runs the floor and is unselfish on the fast break, finding open teammates going to the hoop or spotting up behind the arc. – John Schmeelk, CBS New York"
What The Player Says:
"I was going to go to college for seven, eight months so I was like why not play professional with grown men and they can teach me a lot and be more comfortable with the professional stuff? I just want to win and get as many championships I can. That’s the main thing. – Emmanuel Mudiay"
What BTBP Says:
The Nuggets won’t believe their luck if they see Mudiay fall this far, but considering the fact that things haven’t seemed rosy between the team and Ty Lawson for quite a while, it could be exactly what the franchise needs.
Jusuf Nurkic has already emerged to be an outstanding talent at center, but in the long-term picture Denver don’t have a lot else to build around, so a player with the upside of Mudiay could well prove worth the risk for them.
Who knows, maybe they can even move Lawson on Draft night for another valuable pick?
If they take the risk described by Upside and Motor’s Rafael Uehara, they’d at least have reason to explore that option:
"I’m confident Mudiay will be a quality shot creator in the NBA; he should be able to get into the lane against a set defense and is a good passer at a young age. But whether he’ll be a transcending star will likely depend on if he develops as a scorer, and that’s where the risk lies."
Evan Wheeler of SB Nation’s Denver Stiffs feels the tempo at which Mudiay plays makes him a good fit for Denver too:
"His attacking nature in the open floor, would be a welcomed addition to a Nuggets team who has had success playing fast."
