Despite losing the veteran leadership of Paul Pierce, I’m super high on the Wizards right now. They have an excellent young core of John Wall, Brad Beal and Otto Porter Jr., all of whom project to be great players. They have a strong veteran frontcourt of Nene and Marcin Gortat and a pretty good bench too.

The reason I believe the Wizards storm all the way to the third seed is all about their backcourt, however. I think the Wizards have the best young duo of guards in the Eastern Conference, and they should both continue to get better.

They also get points for sweeping the Raptors in the first round last season–playoff experience is crucial, and this group knows how to win in the postseason. They should find a lot of success this season behind Wall, one of the best young guards in the entire NBA.
