5th Place – Detroit Pistons – 40-42

I really like the Detroit Pistons, but not irrationally so. They’re still going to be the worst team in the Central Division, but seeing as I have all five of these teams in the playoffs in my Eastern Conference predictions that’s really not even throwing shade.

One reason I like the Pistons: Reggie Jackson plays really well in Detroit. In 27 starts on the Pistons last season he averaged around 20 points, ten assists and five rebounds per 36 minutes. The sample size is limited, but if he comes close to that insane 20/10/5 statline again Detroit will be in good shape.

Not to mention Andre Drummond finally getting the paint to himself now that our Bucks have stolen Greg Monroe away from Detroit, and Stan Van Gundy having a roster of his choosing ready to play for him for the first time in his Pistons tenure. They do have depth problems and some defensive woes as well though–which is why I like them, but still have them last in the division.

Expect improvement from this team, and don’t be surprised if they give whoever they match up with in the first round a good fight. They’re going to be scrappy and dangerous–just like the Pistons should be. All is right in the Central Division.
