Joe Prunty, A

  • Giannis and Monroe continued to get some burn with the second unit, particularly in the first half, and once again, it proved to work a treat. Giannis is a tough matchup for any reserve in the league, but Monroe is near unguardable. It’s a strategy that Kidd hardly ever turned to, but it’s worked brilliantly for Prunty.
  • Prunty deserves a lot of credit for keeping it all together in this game. After an unbelievably slow start was followed by Mayo’s antics, and with the team down big at the end of a four game road trip, this game had the feeling of one where the team could have completely imploded. Early on, I thought we were setting up for a new low, but Prunty kept his team in the right frame of mind, and made substitutions to exploit matchup advantages.
  • As reported in the FS Wisconsin broadcast, after a disastrous first quarter, Prunty assured his player that it simply couldn’t get any worse than that, and implored them to go out to fight. He didn’t kick and scream, he rolled with the punches, fully aware that three quarters is a long time in the NBA. Considering how the game unfolded, it was unquestionably his best win so far.
