Oklahoma City Thunder

Many Bucks fans see MCW’s future taking the shape of a high quality backup or Sixth Man, and a move to Oklahoma City would certainly feed into that belief.

This suggestion has been a favorite of speculative fans for quite a while and it’s not too difficult to understand why. For a team set on winning a championship, the Thunder are not exactly loaded in terms of depth behind Russell Westbrook.

At the moment, even a minor injury to Westbrook at the wrong time could cause the wheels to fall off in OKC once again.

Rookie guard Cameron Payne definitely has a lot of potential and has shown good signs of growing into a reliable NBA point guard. The reality is that he’s still very young though, and not necessarily someone that the numbers would indicate Oklahoma City could lean on just yet.

Aside from Payne, the Thunder only have D.J. Augustin to call upon, who in spite of many years experience has offered them very, very little. Combined, Augustin and Payne just don’t give the Thunder as much support for Westbrook as they likely need if they’re to finally achieve their ultimate goal.

If they see Payne as their future backup, or maybe even more, the Thunder certainly could benefit from the help of Carter-Williams in front of him in the rotation over the coming months if they truly intend on making a win-now title push. With the impending free agency of Kevin Durant that’s a real possibility.

The Bucks first question in a conversation over a deal like this one would have to be Payne, yet if the Thunder resisted, Mitch McGary or a pick could appeal to Milwaukee either.
