21. Damian Jones – Center (Vanderbilt)

Words by Andrew Snyder

Jones’ 2015-16 season: 13.6 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 1.3 APG, 0.2 SPG, 1.8 BPG, 57.6% FG

Seven-footers don’t grow on trees. They’re just as tall as trees. Damian Jones is a true seven-footer and that in itself makes him a first round prospect. At Vanderbilt he’s developed into an efficient post scorer, a decent rebounder, and a rim protector. He doesn’t have gaudy shot-blocking numbers, but he’s got good instincts and is a smart defender.

But, as with every big man there are risks. Will his post game show up when defenders are just as tall as he is? He can score in college, but he’s not exactly polished. Like most college big men he could also stand to get stronger.

He doesn’t have star upside or anything, but he has the chance to be a solid rotation big man. He may slip to the second round if teams opt to go with higher ceiling prospects over him. Jones just needs to get into the league and make a name for himself.

Once a big man proves they can play the money will follow. His fellow Vanderbilt Commodore Festus Ezeli went from the 30th overall pick to rim protecting prospect and he now stands to be paid handsomely in free agency. Can Jones be as good as Ezeli? Some team will find out soon enough.
