12. Diamond Stone – Center (Maryland)

Words by Ti Windisch

Stone’s 2015-16 season: 12.8 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 0.2 APG, 0.5 SPG, 1.7 BPG, 49.3% FG

Diamond Stone had a lot of hype leaving high school, but has largely failed to capitalize on that hype this season. Stone is averaging just 13 points and six rebounds per game, and those numbers are generously rounded up.

Stone has failed to hit his stride in Maryland, and is still projected to go in the top ten. That’s because he has incredible talent and potential. Stone is a legitimate seven footer in shoes, and is a low post monster on both ends.

Stone has long arms that he can block a ton of shots with, and he’s also got the talent to score and rebound at a high level. In high school Stone began taking–and making–threes in his last season or two, but he has yet to take one with Maryland

There are also potential maturity and discipline issues here. Stone got hit with a one game suspension for slamming a Wisconsin player’s head into the ground on Saturday. That is not something you’d like to see a top ten pick doing.

Even through all of his current weaknesses, Diamond Stone is still a great prospect. If he ends up going around the tenth or twelfth pick and pans out in the NBA, some team will have gotten an absolute steal.
