10. Ivan Rabb – Power Forward (California)
Words by Ti Windisch
Rabb’s 2015-16 season: 12.1 PPG, 8.6 RPG, 0.9 APG, 0.5 SPG, 1.3 BPG, 62.2% FG
Ivan Rabb is a more typical power forward, who might also end up playing a significant portion of his NBA minutes at center. Teams are just less likely to use traditional big, non-shooting frontcourt tandems together anymore.
Rabb certainly isn’t going to add much shooting, considering he’s yet to even attempt a three-point shot with California. He does a lot of work in the painted area, and his size combined with surprising speed and agility means Rabb ends up at the rim quite often.
He hangs around the rim on defense too, where that athleticism and height means Rabb can adjust and block or at least contest shots at the rim with ease. Rabb’s athleticism means he might be able to sneak in at power forward somewhere, although developing a shot would certainly help with that.
The reason Rabb might go top ten is because he just turned 19 on February 4th. Whatever team drafts him is getting a sub-20-year-old, uber athletic big man. That’s a pretty tantalizing talent for a team that needs another center/power forward.
