1. Ben Simmons – Power Forward (Louisiana State University)

Words by Adam McGee

Simmons’ 2015-16 season: 19.3 PPG, 12.2 RPG, 5.2 APG, 1.9 SPG, 1.0 BPG, 56.3% FG

The NBA is still and may always be defined by generational talents, the type of players who are out of the reach of most franchises if not acquired via the draft. Ben Simmons shows every sign of being that caliber of player.

With an exceptional combination of speed, vision, size and a high basketball IQ, Simmons can impact the game across multiple positions on both ends of the floor. His two-way potential isn’t something that could be easily matched, even by many players already in the NBA.

As a passer, Simmons could be the truest point forward the NBA has seen in a long time, while strong instincts across the board ensure that Simmons should also be an effective rebounder and on ball defender when he turns pro.

It’s obviously too early to put crippling player comparisons on Simmons’ head, but his combination of physical attributes and raw basketball instincts means that it’s only natural to wonder just how special the Australian’s future could ultimately be. Whoever lands that first overall pick is going to be a very lucky team.
