6. The “Big Three” point guard

Milwaukee Sent: Terrell Brandon and Elliot Perry

New Jersey/Minnesota Sent: Sam Cassell, Paul Grant, Chris Gatling

There were some eyebrows raised when after a strong start to the 1998-99 season, the Milwaukee Bucks decided to trade away their starting point guard Terrell Brandon.

Brandon was coming off the back of a strong season, and with the team meshing well under him, there was a sense of having to quell panic after not only Brandon but also forward Tyrone Hill were traded.

General manager Bob Weinhauer was quoted as saying:

"We do not feel that this will take us out of the playoff picture. Our guys will regroup and they will compete."

He was right too. With Cassell running the point the Bucks would eventually go on to be more successful than they had been for 15 years, getting all the way to the Conference Finals in 2001. Cassell helped to give the Bucks an extra gear, while also thrilling the fanbase with his effervescent personality.
