The Curious Fit of Greg Monroe

The shine has worn off the biggest free agent signing in the Bucks 48-year history.

However, that hasn’t been the fault of Greg Monroe by any means. Monroe’s been exactly as advertised and he has been putting up great numbers (a career-best 16.7 points per game, shooting 52 percent from the field) throughout his first year in Milwaukee.

Where the concern of his fit in the starting lineup lies on the defensive end.

It’s become increasingly clear that playing Monroe next to the promising Jabari Parker doesn’t work and head coach Jason Kidd has gone as far as having Monroe come off the bench in the couple of games before the All-Star break to solve that problem.

That development, along with where the team’s record is at, has fueled many trade rumors for Monroe and there are conflicting reports on whether he is or isn’t available with just a few hours before the trade deadline.

Whether those talks become more serious, Monroe’s long-term future in Milwaukee is in serious doubt beyond his current contract and the front office has to start asking themselves how much they value Monroe’s fit in the team’s current core.
