10 Best Players To Go 10th Overall In The NBA Draft
By Ti Windisch
9. Bobby Wanzer
Technically Bobby Wanzer was selected 10th overall in the BAA Draft, not the NBA Draft, but we’ll count him here anyway. Wanzer became a star guard on the Rochester Royals after being picked 10th in the 1948 BAA Draft.
The former Seton Hall standout went on to have a strong NBA career that would include five consecutive All-Star nods and a championship with the Royals, who he spent his entire career with, in 1951.
Statistics from the 1950s look far different from today’s version of the NBA. In his first All-Star campaign back in 1952, Wanzer averaged 15.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game and shot just 42.5 percent from the field.
Those are solid enough numbers, but they probably aren’t getting a player to the All-Star game in 2016. Still, Wanzer was a good player who played an integral role on a championship team, and he belongs on this list.
Most of his accomplishments aren’t well-known today, but at the time Bobby Wanzer was a stand-out player for the Royals.
