Green Bay

(UPDATE: As of 6/29/16, Green Bay has submitted no formal bid as of yet according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, and disputes any previous report to the contrary. Grand Chute instead said to be the fifth location in contention.)

Undoubtedly the contender with the strongest track record in terms of professional sports franchises, Green Bay creates its own intrigue thanks to the longstanding success of the Packers. The real question though is whether or not there’s room for another team in the hearts of the Green Bay faithful?

The city of Green Bay is one of only two of the potential locations said to have made the final shortlist to have never hosted a professional basketball team. The dedication of the locals towards the Packers has been the driving force behind that franchise’s four Super Bowl victories, but the round ball, particularly in a minor league capacity may prove to be a different story.

Of course, the city does play host to the NCAA’s UW-Green Bay Phoenix, who currently play their games at the 10,200 seater Resch Center. An arena that’s only 14 years old, it’s possible that the Resch Center could house the team if things aligned from a scheduling point of view, but it may ultimately prove too big if the Bucks choose to pursue a more intimate setting where they could create a more consistent atmosphere.

Of the proposals reported to be in contention, Green Bay’s is among the least publicized, and as such there are many details which are currently unknown.
