1986-87 – Craig Hodges (Eliminated First Round)

Hodges, Bird and Ellis would return to the three-point contest in the following season, and were joined once again by an impressive list of shooters.

Also playing a part in the contest during the All-Star Weekend in Seattle were Detlef Schrempf, Michael Cooper, Danny Ainge and Kiki Vandeweghe.

Heading into the contest, Hodges shooting was down for the season. Having shot 45.1 percent to lead the league in 1985-86, Hodges would finish the 1987 season shooting only 37.3 percent from behind the arc.

That spilled over into Hodges’ performance in the three-point contest too. Having only notched up 13 points in the first round, Hodges was eliminated at the first hurdle.

Bird would go on to retain his title after besting Detlef Schrempf in a close final round.
