Let Him Walk

According to Zach Lowe’s piece I cited earlier, Monroe is leaning towards declining his player option for next season. Hooray! The Bucks and Monroe can go their separate ways, and Milwaukee goes from paying roughly $30 million to Plumlee and Monroe to having some money to spend!

It might all end up going towards the “Keep Tony Snell In Milwaukee Forever” fund, but money is money. There’s value in cap space, especially with the cap coming in under the projections sent out earlier and other teams paying role players far too much money.

If they so chose, Milwaukee could deal one of Matthew Dellavedova, Mirza Teletovic or John Henson to really open up the books and have some fun. With the (lack of) success this core has experienced thus far, it wouldn’t be a shock to see the Bucks deal one of their offseason signings.

Milwaukee then gets to play the free agency game again, but with a fun twist–now the Bucks have a player in Giannis who started the last All-Star Game and looks to be a fixture there over the next decade, according to Kevin Durant.

This is not a bad option. But it’s not the only one the Bucks have if they do decide to keep Greg Monroe.
