2005 Trade Deadline

Two trades! The Bucks traded Keith Van Horn to the Dallas Mavericks for Calvin Booth, Alan Henderson and cash.

Milwaukee also traded Zendon Hamilton and Mike James to the Houston Rockets for Reece Gaines and second round picks in 2006 and 2007.

Okay, there are a lot of names here. Let’s simplify things. Nobody except Van Horn had much more than a cup of coffee in the NBA, although Mike James has maybe the most random 20 point per game season in NBA history, considering his career average was under ten points per game and he only hit double digits in one other season.

Van Horn was an effective offensive player who could hit threes and score in bulk, and easily the best player involved in either trade here. Why the Bucks decided to give up on him for such a weak return is an odd decision.

Let’s get to the fun part here, which of course means those two second-round picks. Traded picks may not seem like much at the time, but as evidenced by Isaiah Thomas going from Chicago to Milwaukee to Sacramento before even being drafted those picks getting traded can have dramatic results.

This pair of picks was not as dramatic. David Noel and Ramon Sessions were the two players drafted. Noel lasted just one NBA season, but Sessions is having a good career for being a second-round guy.
