1997 Trade Deadline

The Bucks traded Shawn Respert to the Toronto Raptors for Acie Earl.

Shawn Respert was a good player to trade away back in 1997. The Bucks traded Respert in his second NBA season, and the shooting guard would only total four years in the Association total in his career.

The Portland Trail Blazers picked Respert eighth overall back in 1995, but he just didn’t work out on the NBA level. Milwaukee realized that pretty soon after trading for Respert, so the team dumped him.

Unfortunately, the player the Bucks got in return lasted even less time in the NBA. Acie Earl started 18 games in his career before coming to Milwaukee, so maybe it looked like the young center had some potential.

That’s not what happened. Earl played eight games with the Bucks and rode off into the sunset. He too was a first-round pick. Scouting departments took some major Ls in the 1990s.
