Milwaukee Bucks: NBA Trade Deadline Day Rumor Roundup
By Adam McGee
John Henson
The last name mentioned on Brian Windhorst’s list, and one with a very different situation to the previous two is center John Henson.
Now in his fifth season with the Bucks, John Henson remains as frustrating and inconsistent as ever for many Milwaukee fans, and that feeling is reflected by a role so sporadic that it has seen him start 38 games this season, yet also rack up nine DNP-CDs in the season to date.
Henson’s contract, an extension that kicked in this season, is valued at four-years $44 million, yet includes decreasing year-on-year value meaning he’ll only be owed in the region of $31.5 million after this year.
That’s not a deal that will cripple the Bucks by any means, but it’s a commitment they could do without if the former UNC Tar Heel isn’t going to command major playing opportunities.
As one of five centers currently on the roster, there can be little doubt that trading Henson would make the most sense of any potential deadline deal for the Bucks. Still, they also have to be mindful that with various free agency options ahead for their other big men, moving Henson could leave the team with only the young Thon Maker on the roster heading into a free agency class that isn’t exactly stacked with centers.
