Major Key For Utah: Get To The Magic Number

Most teams have a magic number of points scored they need to achieve to have a good shot at winning. Milwaukee’s magic number, for example, is 115. When Milwaukee totals that many or more points, the Bucks are 13-2.

A magic number tells how many points on offense a team needs, but it’s actually reflective of a team’s defensive capabilities. The better the defense, the lower the magic number. The Jazz are a good example of this.

Utah’s magic number is 100. That’s not a typo–the Jazz’ margin of victory shoots up when the team manages to hit just 100 points on offense. Utah is 27-6 when the team puts up triple-digit scoring figures.

That’s not a ton of points. With potent offensive weapons like Gordon Hayward, George Hill, Rodney Hood and Joe Johnson on the roster, it’s no wonder the Jazz have tallied so many wins thus far this season. Those four are all good, but none of them are Utah’s player to watch.
