Major Key For New York: Let Carmelo Go Off

Carmelo Anthony isn’t going to win the Knicks many games through defense, but even somewhat-washed Melo has enough in the tank to sporadically win games for New York on the offensive end. The 32-year-old is scoring 23.2 points per game this season, and he’s had some standout performances.

Melo has scored 35 or more points in five games this season and New York is 4-1 in those contests. His best scoring night of the year, a 45-point outburst against the Atlanta Hawks, ended in a one point loss for NYK though.

Unfortunately for the Knicks, Carmelo dropping a ton of points isn’t always good. When he scores at least 30, New York is 6-9 this season. For him to carry the team, Melo needs to drop at least 35 points it seems.

Just six of those 15 games came on the road, where Melo is a much less effective player. He averages 21.9 points per road game compared to 24.4 per home game, and he’s shooting a paltry 41.8 percent from the field and 34.5 percent from deep away from the Big Apple.
